Are you married? I am. For precisely half my life this month! What a gift. But it's also hard because it points out how I sometimes annoy my wife. I'm sure no other man reading this can relate. (Nor woman.)
Last Saturday, dear friends invited my wife and me over for dinner. As my contribution--kitchens fear me, you see--I had everyone take the Working Genius assessment beforehand and led a "debrief" discussion over the meal. It was rich and we laughed a ton. Let me tell you a little about the players, then I want your hypotheses about our relational dynamics. I'll start with my wife and me, and in a subsequent post talk about my friends. (If you don't know the model, take a couple minutes and look at the link above to familiarize yourself.)
Moi: Wonder and Galvanizing for my Working Geniuses, Invention and Enablement for Working Frustrations. According to the Genius "pairings", that renders me a Philosophical Motivator. I also know it lends me to being a bit much for my wife sometimes (hint hint).
Mrs. Neilson: Enablement and Tenacity for Geniuses--the Loyal Finisher pairing--with Invention and Galvanizing as Working Frustrations. She runs a tight ship--our home is tidy, beautiful, and the kids and husband ~in line. Thank you, Honey.
What's the point? People are different. Sometimes those differences can be annoying to others. Properly appreciated and "regulated", however, they make for rich, complementary relationships, including marriages.
Now over to you. What do Mr. and Mrs. Neilson naturally like about each other? How might they sometimes annoy each other, do you think? I won't be offended at your surmising. Fire away and I'll do my best to reply. With my wife's permission.
